Lava Caves, Kanchanaburi

The River Kwai, infamous for the war stories and imortalized by the movie, yet one of the most beautiful natural environments we have encountered in Thailand.

Pristine waters, traditional Mon (tribal) villages along it’s northern banks, the Lava Caves, featuring their centuries old Stalagmite and Stalagtite formations are but a few of natures stunning creations in this north-western part of the country, near the border to Myanmar.
But it all starts with a good serving of nutritious bananas for energy …
Then on to the boat…
Down the river …
Up the cave trail…
And into the caves …

Enough of the caves, which are, well as are caves…, narrow, damp, stuffy and claustrophobic. So back on the surface we decided on a pit stop at the traditional “Mon” village.

And finally back up the river where we got to soak in this absolutely beautiful scenery:

Trust us, there is a lot more to Thailand than most people know…!
