GranMonte Asoke Valley

This long weekend, Liz has found yet another hideout for us to get away from the city buzz and to relax.

Did you know that Thailand has got several vineyards? Few might know but Granmonte, about 160km northwest off Bangkok is a jewel of a vineyard.
Nestled among green and hilly Khao Yai (National Park), this place is just about perfect for our weekend to getaway from the concrete jungle.
We started out with a minor degree of stress, as the drive which would normally be a 90 minute, took us five hours at the onset of this long holiday weekend. But finally we arrived well in time for an early dinner.
After a good dinner, a few sips of GranMonte’s Sakuna Syrah Rosé 2013 and good cigar (Cohiba Siglio VI) on my part, we were all set to comfortably retire to our room at the idyllic guest house.
A hearty breakfast in beautiful surroundings got us all set for our late morning tour of the vineyards and the wine cellar:
Not the typical view you would expect in Thailand:
That much more intriguing
and all mended by the daughter of the house, Niki who is also the master wine maker.
The winery is well kept and small enough to be boutique yet big enough to produce respectable amouts of wineThere is even a small production of some bubbly in the works
Of course nobody in his or her right mind would end a tour of a vineyard without tasting some of the fine juices – neither did we
The afternoon is spent sleeping to rest from the exhaustion of the wine tasting and with some reading but more sleeping really …
… before inevitably we end up once again at the little restaurant, for more food and wine. Secret tip: try their Viogner, really nice wine, so refreshing …
Cheers!
