Budapest

Like most every year, so this time we headed back to Austria for our annual pilgrimage to see family and put on a few pounds by indulging in all the Austrian delicacies illusive to us for most of the rest of the year.

More often than not, we build in at least one secondary destination in Europe to see more of the continent.
On this occasion we have decided to start with Hungary and so we are spending a few nights in Budapest before heading home to Austria.
On important locations like this, we do of course lug our big camera around (well I, Harald do for the most part…) and the pictures taken are featured on our dedicated album but here a preview of what our iphones produced on this long walk through scorching summer heat:
Day 1:
Our first evening stroll as we were headed for “Rezkakas” a recommended Hungarian Restaurant featuring live Gypsy Music, took us right pass the magnificent Basilica of Budapest.
and yes, here it is: our “selfie” – sometimes it is hard to resist:
Day 2:
Breakfast at the hotel and then straight out to Szimpla Sunday Farmers’ market at the Ruins Pub area.
Fruit, vegetables and all sort of home made goodies are fresh and delicious.
Did someone mention a Pub?
Why not treat it as a good ol’ “Frühschoppen” with some Farmers cheese and a glass of Riesling, it’s late morning by now anyhow.
And the Gypsies are out already and entertaining us well.
After all that nourishment we are ready for a long walk, starting at the Opera house
And moving on to the Basilica (we saw it last night but now during day-time)
And on to the most important sight of the day: across the Chain Bridge
and up Castle Hill
This is clearly the best view in town. You have to come and see it to believe it:Day 3
Shopping, shopping and yes, more shopping! For obvious reasons no pictures here … 🙂
All said and done , a great experience in yet another fascinating city of Europe!
