Bangkrachao, Bangkok on Bicycles

Songkran or the Water-festival as the Thai New Year celebration is also known as, is a really big, weeklong affair in Thailand.
And having had the pleasure a number of times, we have now decided to seek alternatives to the water splashing madness from which to escape, seems near impossible.
On this occasion, in April 2014, it was once again Liz who discovered the hidden. Even most locals don’t know (much less the foreigners living here) that there is an island – yes an island – by the name of Bangkrachao in the middle of this buzzing metropolitan city of some 23million.
It takes all but a short five minute boat ride to cross the Chao Praya river from the tiny – and thus little known – Klong Toy Pier and a world of rainforest and near uninhabited countryside opens up.
So we went on our exploratory bicycle tour:
